It's been a busy month for Oakland's business sector: the city recently welcomed a slew of new eateries and sales are soaring at neighborhood art shops. The streak continues this week as we take a look at some recently opened businesses (and a few closures).

The Port Workspaces (555 12th St.)

The Port Workspaces welcomed its fourth co-working office space, housed on the fifth floor of the Ask building in City Center. Alongside amenities like free coffee and tea, the new location includes a lounge, shared kitchen, conference rooms, "TeamTables," and private offices with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Members are free to utilize all of The Port's outposts, which are located in four historic buildings across three Oakland neighborhoods.

In addition to its first location in Emeryville (6001 Shellmound Ave.), The Lounge Nail Spa has opened its second shop on Broadway Avenue. Decorated with beaded curtains, high ceilings and a centerpiece chandelier, The Lounge offers standard mani/pedis, as well as waxing and nail enhancement services.

GoldenBug Children's Shoes (5509 College Ave.)

On February 28, Emily and Scott Goldenberg — the duo behind Caffe 817 — opened GoldenBug Children's Shoes. The dedicated kids' shoe store in Rockridge carries sizes 3-Y4 (for babies, toddlers and big kids) and includes a play area to keep children busy as parents shop for new kicks.

The Goldenbergs have been small business owners in historic Old Oakland for over five years. Community-minded locals, they hope to partner with local nonprofits and businesses, and plan to donate new and used shoes to children. The store will also hold various events like storytelling sessions, popcorn parties and bug talks with entomologists.

We called the The Sprint Store at RadioShack and reached an automated voice message reporting that it is temporarily closed due to "unforeseen circumstances." We were prompted to visit an alternate location.
