Oakland's Newest Eats: Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden, La Palma, Lux Pub & Club

Big news this week for Oakland food fans as a beloved Alameda brunchery opens an outpost on the mainland, a "revolutionary" food company debuts a West Oakland bakery, and a Mexican spot moves into the home of a former soul food eatery.

In January, we reported that Alameda-based Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden would be taking over the space formerly home to Nick And Aron's. Tipster Al M. now tells us that its grand opening will be held tomorrow from 5pm–7pm. He notes that the space remains the same — just with more of a "cafe-centric, modern look."

In addition to its organic coffees and teas, artisan wines and beer on tap, Julie’s new Oakland outpost will focus more on the kitchen; it will offer wholesome breakfasts and lunch options, in addition to weekend brunch. Drop by the upcoming grand opening for a sample taste of the food and drink menu.

La Palma (8217 International Blvd.)

Yelper Victor G. reports that La Palma has taken over the previous location of Holiday Fish Market, a long-shuttered soul food restaurant established in 1972. Like its forerunner, La Palma offers plenty of seating and seafood options. Its menu includes tacos, burritos, tortas (Mexican-style sandwiches) and a self-service salsa bar.

LocoL Bakery (3446 Market St.)

LocoL Bakery softly opened yesterday with a block party at its new West Oakland location. Tomorrow's grand opening from 3–7 will give customers a chance to try out by-the-slice and whole pizzas, freshly-baked "bunzz," $1 coffee, and more.

Lux Pub + Club (392 11th St.)

On March 21, "Lux Pub + Club" filed an application to sell alcoholic beverages for the corner space between Franklin and 11th streets, which previously housed Hunan Seafood Restaurant. The forthcoming venue, located next to Hotel Travelers, is currently under construction according to tipster Al M. We'll keep an eye out for updates about this location.
