North Beach bar The Boardroom is planning a move to the former Capp’s Corner space at Powell and Green streets this fall.

Owner Keith Wilson confirmed that he has signed a lease agreement for the iconic space, which closed in April 2015 after more than 50 years in business.

Capp's is directly across from the Boardroom, which Wilson opened a decade ago. He is now in the process of transferring his liquor license to the new location.

Founded in 1963, Capp's was a North Beach institution, popular among locals, cops and tourists alike. The neighborhood was saddened when it shuttered, and its space has stood vacant for nearly two years.

Wilson hopes to bring new life to the space, with the same inexpensive food and drink and focus on a local crowd. The Capp's space will offer more room for his growing business.

“There’s a great sunny sidewalk, and we’d like to get some outside tables and do brunch,” he said. “We’ll see what we can do.”

The bar will also continue to showcase sports. “I love sports. I’ll have golf on, women’s tennis, World Surfing League, whatever,” Wilson said.

The Capp's space is currently set for an earthquake retrofit; Wilson plans to move in following completion of the work in the fall.

He said that fans of the Boardroom can expect the bar's relaxed vibe to carry over to the new location.

“We love it here, but we’re off the beaten path, and we top out. It’s critical that we keep it the same.”
