A new izakaya and ramen shop has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to the Inner Sunset, called Sapporo Ramen Izakaya, is located at 420 Judah St. (between 9th and 10th avenues); it replaces Alice Chinese Bistro.

The new izakaya features a selection of small plates, from kara-age fried chicken to gyoza to Sapporo-marinated wings, plus kushi-age and robata-yaki meat skewers and more. On the ramen side of things, look out for the shoyu, Sapporo spicy miso, kobe tantan, and rich "Millionaire tonkotsu" options. And to wash it all down, there's a solid sake list on offer, as well as plenty of Japanese brews, including Hitachino beer and the "Sapporo snow"—a lightly frozen rendition of the ubiquitous Japanese beer.

With a four-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp so far, Sapporo Ramen Izakaya has made a promising start.

Julia P., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 18th, said: "I came here during their soft opening, the signages from the previous restaurant is still up. I ordered a millionaire ramen and it was pretty good. The pork was tasty, but parts of it was a bit hard and tough. I really enjoyed the broth though, and I think that's what makes the ramen."

Yelper Opal L. added: "Overall not terrible. The pork in the Millionaire Tonkatsu was overcooked. I also expected more than just the one piece. I'd go back to try other stuff."

And Jade V. said: "The tonkotsu broth was extremely rich (is that why it's called "Millionaire ramen?" badum-tsh), the noodles were al dente, the chashu was tender, and the egg was perfectly gelled. Great meal, nice atmosphere, and friendly service."

You can anticipate spending $11-$30 per person on a visit to Sapporo Ramen Izakaya, as it's marked as two dollar signs on Yelp.
