At approximately 1:11 pm this afternoon, SFFD responded to a fire in the Bayview district that escalated to 4 alarms, drawing approximately 122 firefighters to the scene.
Residents near Third and Carroll Streets were advised to shelter in place until 5:30pm after firefighters discovered toxic chemicals in the burning building; the order has since been lifted.
The one-story warehouse that burned in the district's industrial zone was formerly United Brass Foundry but is now a vacant metal shop, said SFFD spokesperson Lt. Jonathan Baxter.

“We are fully confident that there are no injuries through our first and secondary search of the building from our rescue squads," said Baxter.
As of 4:30pm, the fire was contained, but first responders plan to stay on the scene until tomorrow afternoon while they investigate its origin.
