Tonight at 7:30pm, the Northern Cailfornia chapter of the National Iranian American Council will hold a vigil at Civic Center/UN Plaza to honor the victims of yesterday's terror attack in Tehran, where ISIS-backed assailants killed 12 and injured 42 others in two separate incidents.

NIAC Field organizer Donna Farvard told Hoodline that she's expecting as many as fifty people to turn out for tonight's vigil. "The show of support on our Facebook page is much larger right now," she said.

Farvard said NIAC is a grassroots organizing group that advocates for Iranian-Americans and promotes better understanding between the US and Tehran.  "This is our first vigil in San Francisco, but we are also organizing vigils in Montclair, New Jersey, Pittsburgh and in Washington DC," she added.

Tonight's gathering, co-sponsored by the Iranian-American Bar Association, "is just an opportunity for us to show our love and support for our Iranian brothers and sisters who were affected by the attacks," Farvard said. She estimated that there are "more than 1,000" Iranian-Americans living in San Francisco.

"It's important that when confronted with acts of hate, we come out and show the love and support instead," she said.
