The last big holiday of the summer is here, and there are plenty of local events to enjoy between barbecues and parades.

Score a free clam chowder bread bowl at Pier 39 on Friday to help power you through the opening day of San Francisco's Comic Con in SoMa, where you'll rub elbows with Samwise Gamgee, Lieutenant Uhura and other fan favorites. If that's not enough entertainment, swing by DNA Lounge in the evening for the return of Tom Gun LIVE!, an immersive Top Gun stage reenactment.

Cast your lures during Saturday's Free Fishing Day at participating piers around the city before checking out the sights, sounds and tastes of the 2017 Aloha Poly Fest, celebrating Polynesian and Micronesian culture. There's also a cat-centric party in Dolores Park and a free evening showing of The Goonies in Mission Bay.

Round out the long weekend with a free production of Hamlet in the park, learning how to juggle at Circus Center, or cheering on the 42nd annual Il Giro di San Francisco Bike Race zipping around the Embarcadero.

Stay cool this weekend—here's the rest of your roundup for the days ahead:
