Cove—the plant-inspired home decor shop on 683 Haight St.—has found a new permanent location on 206 Fillmore St., right next to Café du Soleil.

"There is a [seismic] retrofit going on at the old space," owner Jean Marx told us when we visited.

Because of the retrofit, Marx's Haight Street neighbor Groove Merchant Records also had to relocate; it found a temporary space around the corner at 214 Pierce St.

A diverse selection of plants.

Marx said it wasn't too difficult to decide where to move next. She had noticed the space on Fillmore was empty for some time, but getting in contact with the right person was challenging at first.

"I got help from Working Solutions, which is a nonprofit that helps businesses deal with stuff like that," she said. They also assisted her with negotiating a lease.

The new space has high ceilings and windows.

While the plants and other natural accessories remain the same, Marx plans to offer gift cards in the future, something she hadn't done before.

Marx still owns the space on Haight where the retrofit is underway. After it's finished, she plans to find a new tenant.

As we reported two years ago, it's not the first time Marx has relocated—she moved to 683 Haight St. from a previous space at nearby 678 Haight St. after 11 years.

The new location also has additional features that Marx likes.

"There is better light, that will be good for the plants," she explained. "The height of the ceilings makes it feel more spacious and airy."

With foot traffic in the area better as well, she's also planning to hold a grand opening event, likely during the next Lower Haight Art Walk, but an exact date is still to come.

Neighbors can drop by every day from 12pm to 7pm, but hours are flexible, so call in advance: 415-863-8199.
