Tenderloin Crime & Safety: Woman Robbed By Cab Driver, Hit-And-Run-Arrest, MorePhoto: Carrie Sisto/Hoodline

Here's a recap of notable crimes that have occurred in the neighborhood since our last roundup. Unless otherwise noted, all details come from SFPD reports.

Taxi Driver Robs Woman In Tenderloin

As we reported, a 42-year-old woman who hailed a taxi around 1:30am on August 10th on the 500 block of O’Farrell Street (near Jones) was reportedly robbed by her driver, said to be a man around 35 years old. She wasn’t injured but the suspect remains at large.

Shelter In Place Order Issued After Grenade Discovery

Just before 1:00pm on August 9th, a shelter in place order was issued by SFPD for people near the intersection of Turk and Leavenworth streets due to the discovery of a suspicious device that was later suspected to be a hand grenade.

Man Robbed After Woman Strikes Him With Cane

Around 9:30pm on August 8th, a 25-year-old woman asked a 59-year-old man for money on the 200 block of Leavenworth Street (near Eddy). When the man refused, the woman hit him with a cane, causing him to fall.

Three men said to be between 25 and 40 years old went through the victim’s pockets and stole his wallet before all four suspects fled the scene. No arrest has been made.

Hit-and-run Suspect Apprehended Near Turk & Polk

Around 3:30pm on August 7th, officers were pursuing a 16-year-old man in a vehicle said to be involved in a hit-and-run when the suspect struck an occupied vehicle near the intersection of Turk and Polk streets, injuring a 28-year-old woman, and damaged several other parked cars.

The man exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but, as we reported, the officers apprehended and arrested him.

Man Shot In Leg After Approaching Vehicle

Around 3:40pm on August 2nd, a 36-year-old man walked up to the window of a vehicle near the intersection of Olive and Polk streets.

An unknown suspect in the car pulled out a box cutter, opened the car door, and shot the man in the leg before fleeing in the vehicle. The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the suspect has not been identified. 

Argument Escalates Into Attack With Pole

Two men got into an argument near the intersection of Hyde and Ellis streets at 4:42pm on August 1st.

The disagreement escalated and the 28-year-old man struck the victim, a 48-year-old man, with a pole. Officers took the younger man into custody. 

Man Loses Wallet In Afternoon Mugging

At 4:30pm on August 1st, a 48-year-old man standing on the sideway near the intersection of 6th and Mission streets was punched by a man said to be 50 years old. The suspect stole the victim’s wallet from his hand.

Grocery Shopper Robbed On Market Street

A 45-year old man was buying food on the 1200 block of Market Street (near Hyde) around noon on August 1st, when a woman said to be 45 years old grabbed his money, pushed him, and fled the scene. No arrest has been made.

Blocks Apart, Two Robberies Take Place Within A Half Hour

Around 10pm on July 31st, a 58-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Larkin and Eddy streets when an unknown suspect hit and injured him, and stole his wallet and ID card. 

Only half an hour earlier, a 27-year-old man walking on the 800 block of Market Street was approached from behind and had his cellphone and key card stolen. No arrest has been made in either case.

Man Stabbed After Resisting Robber

A 30-year-old man was approached by a man said to be 35 years old near the intersection of Leavenworth and Turk streets at 10:45pm on July 30th.

The older man tried to pull the victim’s phone out of his hand, and stabbed the younger man when he resisted. The victim then fled the scene, and no arrest has been made.

Woman Temporarily Blinded In Bleach Attack

As we reported, a woman had bleach poured on her face near the intersection of Mason and Market streets at 7:30pm on July 30th. The male suspect is said to be in his early twenties.

The 57-year-old woman was transported to the hospital and treated for loss of vision. 

Woman Suffers Head Injury After Assault Near 6th & Market

Around 1:50pm on July 30th, a 58-year-old woman was approached from behind by another woman said to be between 35 and 45 years old on the unit block of 6th Street (near Market).

The younger woman grabbed the older woman’s head and slammed her into the ground head first, before fleeing in an unknown direction. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening head injury and was taken to the hospital to be treated. 

Sign Vandal Attacks Witness

A 48-year-old man saw a man said to be in his thirties vandalizing a sign near the intersection of Cyril Magnin and O’Farrell streets around 6:26am on July 30th.

When the older man approached, the suspect immediately started punching him in the face and he was knocked to the ground. The victim lost consciousness and awoke to the suspect kicking him in the back.

The suspect eventually fled, and the victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for a cut above his eyebrow and bruising to both eyes. No arrest has been made.
