A woman was assaulted and shoved off a Muni platform on 3rd Street between Oakdale and Palou avenues in Bayview yesterday morning. The stop serves the K-Ingleside/T-Third Street lines.

While an 81-year-old woman was waiting for a Muni light rail at 8:20am, a 51-year-old woman approached her from behind and pushed her off the platform.

The two did not speak to each other before the incident, police reported. According to witnesses,

The 81-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The other woman was arrested at the scene.

Update, 1:32pm: SFPD has now issued an update on this incident, which is now being considered a hate crime.

When SFPD officers responded to the scene at 8:20pm yesterday, they found the victim, an Asian woman, with a head wound and using a napkin to control the bleeding.

Witnesses told officers what had happened and provided a description of the suspect and the direction she was heading.

A beat officer quickly detained a person matching the suspect's description on 3rd St. and Quesada Ave. Both the victim and a witness identified the detained person as the suspect who had pushed the woman from the platform.

Police have now identified the suspect as 51-year-old San Francisco resident Jacqueline Miller. She was booked at SF County Jail on two felony charges: aggravated assault and elder abuse.

In her statement to police, Miller said that she had assaulted the victim because of her ethnicity. SFPD is now also charging her with a hate crime enhancement.

While police have made an arrest, this remains an active and open investigation, and SFPD is seeking more details from the public.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
