An employee at an Inner Richmond supermarket was critically injured early this morning after he was bitten by a suspect’s dog and stabbed during an altercation.

According to police, the incident occurred at 1:05am inside a Safeway at 7th Avenue & Cabrillo Street when the employee, 39, allegedly tried to stop the suspect from stealing items from the store.

After the victim and suspect got into a scuffle, the suspect’s dog bit the victim several times on his legs and buttocks before the suspect stabbed him in the back.

When other employees attempted to aid the victim, the suspect tried to stab several of them before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the suspect was arrested a short while later.
