'People's Café' Adds Dinner Service, Chinese Cuisine As 'People's Bistro'Photos: People's Cafe/Facebook

Last week, Haight Street mainstay People's Café updated its modus operandi by extending hours to 10:30pm and adding Chinese food to the evening menu.

Re-dubbed "People's Bistro," the restaurant at 1419 Haight—which heretofore specialized in lunch and brunch fare, from pancakes and waffles to fries, burgers, salads, and shakes—now offers Chinese cuisine.

The new offerings run the gamut from hot and sour wonton soup ($8.95) to seafood dishes (mostly $13), rice and noodles, and comfort plates like Szechuan beef ($11.95).

Despite the international options available in the Upper Haight, People's Bistro will be the neighborhood's lone outpost for Chinese food.

It's the first substantial update to the restaurant's offerings since the business changed hands in 2015. The café's traditional menu will still be available during the day.

As part of its grand opening, bistro dishes will be buy-one-get-one-free through December 31st. According to the restaurant's Facebook page, the new menu is available Tuesday through Sunday from 5pm to10:30pm.
