Tipster Simon W. alerted us that Pisces Taiyaki Dessert at 488 Fell St. (and Laguna) is now open, "and it sells waffle fish ice cream with a unicorn option."

City documents indicate that a limited restaurant permit was approved last month. When we checked in with owner Zhi Yu Wu, a Daly City resident, he confirmed that Pisces is the newest addition to the neighborhood.

Business partners Zi Liu and Zhi Yu Wu.

As we reported in October, the new spot serves taiyaki, a Japanese fish-shaped pastry that's filled with a variety of ice cream flavors and ingredients.

Berkeley-based UJI Time, which also serves taiyaki, opened a branch in Japantown's Peace Plaza complex earlier this year.

Wu said he and business partner Zi Liu are hosting a grand opening week that offers ice cream aficionados half off all orders for the entire day, with the first ten customers each day receiving a free taiyaki ice cream.

Located in the former Papabubble space, Pisces' special promotional prices are available until Christmas.

Wu and Liu also serve a variety of hand-rolled ice cream, which can be ordered in a donut or taco, while soft-serve ice cream comes in the signature fish-shaped cone. For those who like it simpler, both options are also available in a cup.

Ice cream flavors like vanilla, matcha and chocolate are on the menu, served with two toppings like mochi, rainbow sprinkle or peanuts, and a flavored syrup.

"The taiyaki cone was way more exciting than a boring sugar cone," Yelper Adam B. wrote. "It was a tad firmer than the soft taiyaki you might get filled with bean paste or custard."

Customers interested in updates can follow Pisces on Instagram or Facebook.
