Take Off As New Yoga & Aerial Fitness Studio 'Expand.Yoga' Opens In The Mission

A new yoga and aerial fitness spot has rolled out the mat for new customers. Located at 482 Potrero Ave. (between Mariposa and 17th streets) in the Mission, the new addition is called Expand.Yoga.

This new spot specializes in anti-gravity yoga (also known as aerial yoga), which incorporates Pilates and dance with traditional yoga positions on an anti-gravity hammock.

Classes are open to all, regardless of skill level or experience, and instructors allow guests to "monitor your own resistance, so each class is as hard as or as easy as you choose to work."

"If you can do three consecutive sit-ups," a statement continues on the business' website, "you can do [aerial yoga] or suspension fitness."

Many of Expand.Yoga's classes also offer a post-class social component. Expect to see classes like "Cocooning + Kombucha," which combines anti-gravity yoga fundamentals with ten minutes of meditation and complimentary kombucha served at the end of class; and "FUNdamentals + Coffee," which focuses on aerial yoga techniques, deep stretching, and a core workout with the hammock.

The class concludes with a two-block walk to a nearby coffee shop for socializing. (You can check out what's on offer at Expand.Yoga here.)

There's just one review on Yelp so far, which gives it five stars.

Laura D., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on December 6th, said: "This cool new anti-gravity studio is well located with lots of street parking. Excellent instructors and proprietor and vibe! I encourage people to support this women-owned and -run business!"

Expand.Yoga is open Wednesday from 7pm–8pm, and Sunday from 10am–11am. (It's closed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.)
