3-Alarm Fire Damages Multiple West Portal BusinessesPhotos: Wigzy M./Hoodline Tipline

A 3-alarm fire last night in the heart of West Portal's business district damaged three businesses, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to 32-36-40 West Portal Avenue at 10:42pm and arrived on the scene five minutes later to find that Paperhausen Hardware, grocery store West Portal Daily and Sloane Square Beauty Salon were ablaze.

Crews from engine companies searched the adjoining 1-story structures, but no one was evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

The blaze escalated to 2 alarms at 10:48 and was designated a 3-alarm fire at 11:30pm when a roof collapse resulted in the evacuation of firefighters.

By 11:52pm, the fire was contained. Investigators are looking into what caused the fire, and the city's Office of Economic and Workforce Development is standing by to assist business owners.

Via Facebook, owners of Papenhausen Hardware, which opened in 1936, said "the store will take some work, but we will be back."
