The space formerly occupied by Ike's Place sandwich shop has been vacant since the eatery closed in August 2016, but Hoodline has learned that it's now being made over for a new tea shop.

Public records indicate that the property is being leased by Tammy Ling, who is renovating a storefront inside the building, which was built in 1885.

A building permit was initially filed in November 2017 and indicated $10,000 to fix a non-even floor and repair a partition.

A month later, the permit was amended to increase the estimated cost to $100,000 so contractors could add a partition, install a new counter and floor, and make plumbing and electrical improvements.

Before Ike's, the space was held by chocolatier Joseph Schmidt Confections, which departed the space in 2009 after it was acquired by Hershey.
