A confrontation last night between two men in a Chinatown park led to an assault that left the victim with critical injuries.

The incident took place on the 700 block of Kearny Street in Portsmouth Square around 6:45pm when a 58-year-old man who was sitting in the park was approached by a male suspect described as 50 years old.

After the two men got into a confrontation, the suspect punched the victim, "who fell and lost consciousness," according to police. The suspect fled the scene and was not apprehended, and the victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
