A robbery investigation in the Mission last night led to an officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a suspect, police have reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:36pm when two robbery victims flagged down a marked police car at 20th and Capp streets. The victims offered police a description of the alleged perpetrators and their vehicle, a black Honda Civic.

After finding a car that matched the description on Capp between 21st and 22nd streets, officers ordered the suspects to exit the vehicle. Although "the driver complied and was detained," police observed that the trunk was open and a second suspect was inside.

As police moved to detain the second suspect, an officer opened fire and ordered a third female suspect out of the vehicle, who was taken into custody. Police removed the wounded suspect from the trunk and administered aid before calling an ambulance, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Investigating officers found a handgun in the trunk of the suspect vehicle and transported the victims to Mission Station to conduct interviews.
