A driver struck a pedestrian during Friday evening's rush hour in SoMa, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries, police have reported.

In the incident, which took place around 5:42pm, a 60-year-old female driver was traveling north on 3rd Street toward Howard when she drove through the intersection and struck the victim, a 49-year-old man.

The driver remained at the scene and the victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. 

According to the Department of Health, the crash occurred on the city's high injury network, the 12 percent of surface streets where about 70 percent of pedestrian fatalities and injuries occur.
