On Tuesday, co-working space UnCOmmon announced its latest expansion in Uptown at 1750 Broadway.

As we reported in February, plans were in the works to demolish the three-story Community Bank of the Bay building at the site. The new development includes a 37-story tower with 307 units of housing, a six-level parking garage with 210 spaces, and 5,000 square feet of ground-level retail space.

As for the new co-working space, the UnCOmmon property is owned by San Francisco-based real estate investment firm, Rubicon Point Partners and will offer what the company bills as a "flexible office solution for high-growth companies," according to a release.

“This latest evolution...is perfect for companies looking for the flexibility of co-working with the customization and control that traditionally requires a long-term lease,” said Razmig Boladian, managing partner at Rubicon.

“This new offering is really an extension of Rubicon’s knack for identifying overlooked, underutilized commercial opportunities and transforming them into efficient, enjoyable environments," Boladian added.

Rubicon debuted UnCOmmon last year with the aim to relieve growing teams of the responsibilities connected to designing and maintaining a traditional work environment.

As for office amenities, the 10,000-square-foot space boasts three conference rooms, two private phone booths, an open kitchen stocked with food and coffee, common areas for lounging and social meeting spaces. The building also has direct access to the 19th Street BART station.

“We’ve already seen an enthusiastic appetite from the market for this kind of product,” said Mimi Bowie, Director of UnCOmmon. The first San Francisco location in the Mission (438 Shotwell St.) is already operating at full capacity. A second location in the Mid-Market neighborhood will open at 149 9th St. sometime later this year.

For the Oakland launch, the company is hosting Women in Blockchain Hackathon, organized by Team Block Society—"a global network of women in blockchain and high tech," according to its website.

The event, which starts today and ends Sunday, features networking opportunities, workshops and hacking, where participants will be asked to "formulate a company thesis and building and operating prototype," with $5,000 in prizes awarded by NurseToken.

For Boladian, the company's first Oakland event aligns with Rubicon's "longstanding commitment to empower communities and to stay on the forefront of real estate innovation," he said.
