Burglar targets Hayes Valley Wise SonsPhoto: Teresa Hammerl/Hoodline

Yesterday, a Hoodline tipster alerted us that a burglar broke into Wise Sons Bagel & Coffee at 537 Octavia St. (and Ivy) during the early morning hours.

When we visited the bagelry, a broken window next to the entrance was covered with plywood. Wise Sons owner Evan Bloom later Hoodline via email that the location remained open.

"The thief stole some cash, but nothing more," he said, adding that the store's security camera got "a pretty good view" of the suspect.

SFPD spokesperson Officer Giselle Linnane told Hoodline that police responded to an audible alarm call on the 500 block of Octavia Street at approximately 2:50am.

A victim at the scene told police that they received a message with an alert regarding the early-morning alarm. Linnane said the front door was damaged, a window broken and confirmed that cash was stolen by an unknown suspect.

"This is an open investigation," she added.

As we reported, Wise Sons moved into the former Artís Coffee space last fall, serving bagels, classic deli sandwiches, coffee and pastries. Brothers and owners Evan and Ari Bloom have opened seven locations, while most of them are in San Francisco, one is located in Japan.
