From fusion plates to Asian desserts, the Pocket's new A Taste Above has something for everyonePhoto: Kurt C./Yelp

A new Asian fusion spot offering sandwiches, pastries and ice cream has opened for business in the Promenade shopping center. Called A Taste Above, the fresh arrival is located at 7485 Rush River Drive, Suite 700 in the Pocket area.

A Taste Above's wide-ranging menu is heavy on sandwiches, like the Steak Capitol, a combination of beef tri-tip, lettuce, tomatoes and housemade barbecue sauce. Also on offer are Asian and fusion dishes like the Mega Musubi (a large Hawaiian-style rice ball filled with Spam and wrapped in seaweed), and "Plate Above" entree combinations, like kalbi short ribs and chicken katsu.

For those in search of a sweet treat, A Taste Above serves ice cream and fruit freezes from longtime local favorite Gunther's. It also offers Asian-style pastries and desserts, like pineapple bao with barbecue pork filling, or a fruit bowl with mango, pomelo and sago (tapioca-like palm starch balls).

A Taste Above has gotten solid reviews thus far, with a 4-star rating out of 45 reviews on Yelp.

Dennis D., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 20, said, "The food and atmosphere was amazing. Very clean place and friendly staff. We had the Philly Dilly and it was out-of-this-world good. My kids had the Steak Capitol and raved about it."

And Brittany F. agreed, "Everything was delicious and in huge portions. I love the mega musubi, pineapple custard bun and the barbecue pork bun. I get these every time! Be sure to get here early, because the pastries are popular and can go fast."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: A Taste Above is open from 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.–6 p.m. on Sunday.
