Stabbings injure 2 men in Tenderloin, SoMaPhoto: aaron_anderer/Flickr

Two people were stabbed in separate incidents last night in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods, police have reported.

In the first attack, which took place around 10:00 p.m. on the 700 block of Mission Street, a 27-year-old man was approached from behind by two male suspects in their twenties who attempted to steal his backpack. When the victim resisted, a fight broke out and one of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed him.

Both suspects fled on foot, and the injured man, who managed to keep his property, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In the second stabbing, which occurred just after 2:00 a.m. on the 100 block of Ellis Street in the Tenderloin, a 40-year-old man got into a verbal argument with multiple people outside a business.

As the confrontation escalated, one or more male suspects in their twenties assaulted him with an unknown weapon, and the victim ran into a nearby building.

Once inside, security called police and the suspect fled the scene on foot. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening wounds.

Anyone who has information about either of these incidents is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
