A new Italian and Spanish spot has debuted in the neighborhood. The newcomer to the Bishop Arts District, called Macellaio, is located at 287 N. Bishop Ave.

The new bistro is a spinoff of the popular restaurant Lucia (located just a block away), and focuses on charcuterie. According to Dallas Eater, the dining space is set up to look like an Italian salumeria.

The menu offers snacks, small plates and entrees inspired by the cuisines of Italy and Spain. You can snag a salumi board to sample the variety of meats, which include capicola, prosciutto, fiocco, lonza, culatello and more. There are also spreadable sausages served with focaccia bread.

Besides its salumi options, there are dishes you can order, such as the fig leaf-wrapped whole branzino with raw zucchini salad; the duck tongue confit with onion dip; or the celery salad with parsley, golden raisins, chile and sardine boquerones.

It's got a drink menu to complement its offerings, including spritzers, cocktails and a selection of vermouths.

The newcomer has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.

Barrett B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 8, said, "My girlfriend and I went for an early dinner that ended up lasting for three hours. We tried as much as we could and it was all amazing. Everything is homemade, from the bread to the cured meats. You get the best parts of Lucia without having to make a reservation a month in advance."

Yelper Melinda P. added, "Macelliao delights and is a superb addition to Bishop Arts. I just happened to walk in on opening night and will be back very soon! ... The salumi is where Macelliao really shines. Excellent flavor and selection, all made in-house. Divine."

Interested in trying it out? Stop by to welcome the new eatery to the neighborhood. Macellaio is open from 5–10 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 5–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
