In this edition: a comfort food eatery lands a new executive chef and expands, a shochu-focused Japanese restaurant relocates, and a national pancake chain bids farewell to the Marina.

Updates

Russian Hill

Mac'd (2127 Polk St.)

As we previously reported, macaroni-and-cheese purveyor Mac'd has expanded to Russian Hill in a space that once housed Dakshin Indian Canteen, which closed its doors earlier this month.

Additional details about the new spot have been revealed, including the announcement of the eatery's new executive chef, Greg Engelhardt, previously of SoMa's International Smoke.

Engelhardt is perfecting its recipes to "ensure consistency and quality across both locations," said a spokesperson.

Mac'd will be softly open on June 21 and will celebrate its grand opening weekend June 29 – July 1 with yet-to-be-revealed special activities.

Tsunami Panhandle (1300 Fulton St.)

Tsunami Panhandle has moved to its new location at the former Cafe Abir space, which closed in 2015.

The sushi restaurant and shochu bar first opened in 2001 and comes from Dajani Group, which operates Nihon Whiskey Lounge in the Mission and Bar 821 on Divisadero Street.

The new spot, located one door down from its original iteration, features a dedicated shochu bar with more than one hundred variations from all over Japan. The bar program is run by general manager Victoria Vera.

In addition to its array of sake options, expect to see Japanese whisky joining the lineup in the near future. The restaurant has reopened with revamped menu created by chef Shinsuke Hagino and an oyster bar with daily happy hour specials.

Patrons who purchase a bottle of sake, shochu or wine between 5–7 p.m. daily will receive a dozen free oysters.

IHOP (2299 Lombard St.)

Lastly, Hoodline tipster Elena K. reports that the Marina's IHOP, housed in a A-frame building next to the Surf Motel & Suites, has permanently turned off its griddle.

It's not clear why the restaurant decided to throw in the towel, however, Business Insider reported earlier this year that parent company Dine Brands Global, Inc. planned to close more than two dozen locations.

"The expected closures will be based on several criteria, including meeting our brand and image standards, as well as operational results," the company said in a statement.

Thanks to tipster Elena K. for the tip!
