Hoodline tipster Diana D. reports that a new beer hall called Tigers Taproom is heading to the former World Ground Cafe space between 3rd and 4th streets near Jack London Square.

Co-owner Daniel Gutierrez told Hoodline via telephone that the project is still in its early stages as they finalize permits and prepare to start construction sometime in mid-July with a goal of opening by September.

"Most of the work is cosmetic, since a majority of the infrastructure is already in place," said co-owner Brian Chan via email. "It shouldn't take us more than two months to get open."

Gutierrez said the taproom will launch with a variety of local brews from the East Bay and San Francisco. After business takes off, the partners plan to expand their offerings, he said.

Tigers Taproom will also include cold cases to serve grab-and-go customers. "You can grab a six-pack and head home, or open a bottle and and enjoy it in the taproom," said Gutierrez.

While the establishment doesn't plan to serve food, Gutierrez and Chan said friends who run pop-up restaurants around Oakland will offer a rotating food menu concept.

To spotlight the neighborhood's bourgeoning beer industry, area entrepreneurs have formed the Jack London Brewing District, according to the East Bay Express

"Hopefully the brewing district becomes well known and attracts people from around the Bay Area and beyond," said Gutierrez.

Founding members include Independent Brewing (444 Harrison St.), Original Pattern Brewing (292 4th St.), Oakland United Beerworks (formerly Linden Street Brewery, set to open this summer at 262 2nd St.), and Federation Brewing (420 3rd St.).

Thanks as ever to Diana D. for the tip!
