Topping the list is Flat Earth Brewing, which features a taproom and outdoor beer garden. Located at 688 Minnehaha Ave. E in the old Hamm’s complex, it is the highest rated brewery in St. Paul, boasting 4.5 stars out of 45 reviews on Yelp.

Check out house brews like the clean and crisp Angry Planet pale ale; the complex Belgian-style pale ale, the hoppy Northwest Passage IPA and the heavy Cygnus X-1 Rye Porter. Flat Earth brews can be found at many places in the Twin Cities area. Check out the website for taproom hours and availability.

2. Urban Growler

Next up is St. Anthony Park's Urban Growler, which says it is the first women-owned microbrewery in Minnesota. Situated at 2325 Endicott St., the brewery and event space boasts four stars out of 120 reviews on Yelp. Leashed dogs are welcome in the beer garden.

Opened in July 2014 by master brewer Deb Loch and co-owner Jill Pavlak, Urban Growler uses locally sourced ingredients for a true flavor of the Midwest, according to the business' website.

Try the flagship Cowbell Cream Ale that's low in bitterness and high in crispiness; a seasonal and heavy Imperial Smoked Chipotle Porter, with hints of peppers and chocolate with caramel sweetness; or an experimental small batch brew like the Lime Wheat Shady or Double Dry Hopped Belgian IPA. The beer menu can be seen here.

Pair your beer with appetizers, burgers or sandwiches like the Cubano or turkey with pesto on a hoagie bun.

3. Bang Brewing

Bang Brewing, another beer destination in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood, is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 30 Yelp reviews. The cozy spot at 2320 Capp Road is in a converted grain silo.

This joint has many one-word named beers. Grab a Mike, a summer ale; a Hive, a honey ale; a stout named Loop; or an IPA named Whop. Take a look at the brews here.

Yelp reviewer MJ. wrote, "Round is good. Grain bins are good. So gathering inside a grain bin to drink 100 percent organic beer crafted with passion is even better. I would place the quality of the eight to 10 beers on tap here in the top 10 of Twin Cities breweries, and I've been to over two dozen of them."

4. Summit Brewing Company

Over in the West Seventh area, check out Summit Brewing Company, which has earned four stars out of 71 reviews on Yelp. You can find the brewery at 910 Montreal Circle.

This Minnesota staple offers trivia nights and brewery tours at the place where the brews are created. A full line of Summit beers are available, from stouts and porters to hefeweizens and IPAs. Get acquainted with the full beer list here. Year-round, seasonal and limited offerings are all available at this spot's taproom.
