West Elm is an upscale furniture store that also offers housewares, home decor and more. The Williams Sonoma-owned chain has a new branch in Suite 160 of the 1610 R Street block of the development.

The spot specializes in mid-century modern style furniture and art pieces. It has outfitted several demonstration apartment units in the residential part of Ice Blocks with furniture and decor that potential tenants can purchase from its retail space.

The goods on offer include everything from sofas to beds to storage-saving coffee tables. The shop additionally offers handcrafted goods like soaps, stationery and more from local artists.

With a four-star Yelp rating out of three reviews, West Elm has been getting positive attention.

"West Elm has great mid century modern flair at amazing prices and they highlight community artisans wherever they are located," Lesley T. approved. "Parking is difficult, so [customer service] will have to be a selling point for customers."

Yelper Jenny J. added, "You walk in and it feels very open and fresh with lots of staff to help you. Everyone was very friendly and checking in."

West Elm is open from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. daily.

Bonobos is a fashionable menswear retailer whose originally online-only concept has been expanded to a line of brick and mortar "Guideshops." The new clothing store is located in the 1710 R Street block, Suite C., and sells suits, casual clothes and accessories.

The Guideshop idea is intended for customers to try on the store's clothes with the help of a personal stylist who assists in sizing and selections. Once clothes are chosen and fitted, customers order them in-store or online and they are delivered to home or office.

With just one review so far, it's early days yet for the fledgling business.

Yelper Janet M., who reviewed Bonobos on July 7, wrote, "The shop was very organized and the Guideshop Manager was very helpful."

Bonobos is open from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon–6 p.m. on Sunday.

Local small-batch craft brewery Device Brewing has a new taproom in the 1610 R Street block of Ice Blocks. It's the second location for owners Ken and Melissa Anthony, as we recently reported.

The brewery specializes in West Coast style ales. It recently won awards for its Chairman's Choice (an American Strong Ale) and its Salted Caramel Porter at the California State Fair. (You can check out the full list of available beers at the brewery's website.)

The dog-friendly and kid-friendly taproom has seating both indoors and outdoors. A rotating selection of food trucks sometimes provides food, and patrons are encouraged to bring their own as well.

Device Brewing currently holds four stars out of 21 reviews on Yelp, indicating a positive response from users.

Yelper Ann N., who reviewed Device Brewing on August 8, wrote, "Open and airy spot with seating inside and all around the outside. The flight was about $12 and you can try 5-6 different types of beer they have. We did two of those and all were good!"

"The salted caramel porter was perfect," added Mauricio V. "No bad aftertaste, just a smooth creamy beer."

Device Brewing is open from 11 a.m.–midnight Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
