Leading into another look at notable crimes reported in the Tenderloin district in the two weeks since our last roundup

Man in life-threatening condition after attack with metal cane

On September 6th around 1 a.m., SFPD officers found a 65-year-old man in life-threatening condition on the unit block of 6th Street (near Market). Video evidence showed that an unidentified female suspect attacked him with a metal cane. The man was hospitalized for his injuries and no arrest has been made.

Man robbed of knives in two-on-one attack 

Also on September 6th, around 6:25 p.m., a 49-year-old man on the 200 block of Golden Gate Avenue (near Leavenworth) was approached and attacked by two men said to be in their thirties. The suspects stole the victim’s backpack and knives before fleeing on foot. They have not been identified.

Teen arrested after scissor attack

A 17-year-old woman was walking out of a store near the intersection of Market and 5th streets around 5:05 p.m. on September 5th when a 14-year-old girl randomly walked up to her and stabbed her in the chest with scissors. The victim stated that she did not know the suspect, who was arrested. 

Man robbed when exiting BART

Around 5:41 a.m. on September 3rd, a 46-year-old man was exiting the Powell Street Bart Station near Halladie Plaza when he was approached by two unknown suspects, one of whom demanded his property and hit him with a gun. The victim did not report any losses, but had to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

BART police detain robber

An 18-year-old man approached a 23-year-old man from behind near the intersection of Market and Jones streets around 5:35 p.m. on September 2nd. The younger man pulled the victim’s cellphone from his pocket, punched him, and fled to the BART station, where he was detained by BART police and taken into SFPD custody.

Arrest made in punching homicide

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for killing a 66-year-old man with his fists around 1:20 p.m. on September 2nd on the 700 block of O’Farrell Street (near Hyde). No further details are currently available on the homicide investigation. 

Man loses phone in pepper spray robbery

Around 3:30 p.m. on September 1st, a man said to be in his late twenties approached a 20-year-old man near there intersection of Turk and Taylor streets, pointed a can of pepper spray at him, and stole his cellphone out of his pants pocket. The suspect fled on foot, and remains at large.

Man robbed in four-on-one attack

A 57-year-old man was assaulted by four men, all estimated to be around 30 years old, around 10:38 a.m. on September 1st, near the intersection of Myrtle and Larkin streets. The men stole the victim’s wallet and money, then fled in an unknown direction. 

Two-on-one early morning robbery 

Around 12:30 a.m. on September 1st, a 35-year-old man was approached by two unknown suspects near the intersection of Leavenworth and Eddy streets. One of the suspects punched the victim, causing him to fall. Both suspects stole the victim’s currency, debit card, and phone before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Argument escalates to two-on-one attack

On August 29th around 6:54 p.m., a 34-year-old man was arguing with two men said to be in their forties on the 200 block of Turk Street (near Jones) when the suspects assaulted him. 

A 44-year-old man tried to help the victim, but was also attacked. The younger victim fell to the ground and was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

Machete used to demand debt payment

Around 11:48 p.m. on August 28th, a man said to be in his early thirties approached a 46-year-old man on the 100 block of Eddy Street (near Mason) to ask about money that was owed to him. 

When the victim claimed he didn’t have any money, the younger man swung a machete and struck him. The victim ran into a nearby store, while the suspect fled on foot and remains at large.

Man shoots into air during argument

Around 10:21 p.m. on August 25th, a witness saw a 30-year-old man arguing with an unknown female. The man pulled out a gun, shot a round into the air, then fled eastbound on O’Farrell. Officers recovered the handgun at the scene. There were no injuries or damage reported, but the suspect remains at large.
