1. The Roll Pod

Topping the list is The Roll Pod. It's Indian food on the go, with your choice of roll (wheat roti layered with pan-fried egg) or bowl (fried rice with a tomato gravy and topped with a fried egg), each stuffed with your choice of filling. These include chicken, paneer, mushroom, aloo (potatoes) or, for a bit extra, mutton.

Regularly located at 975 John St. (between North Westlake and North Terry avenues) in the Cascade, it is the highest-rated cheap food truck in Seattle, boasting five stars out of 107 reviews on Yelp.

2. Tacos El Asadero

Next up is Rainier Valley's Tacos El Asadero, situated at 3517 Rainier Ave. South. This food truck — it's more of a bus, actually — serves up authentic street-style tacos filled with meat like carne asada, carnitas, spicy pork and tongue. In addition to tacos, it's got burritos, tortas, soups and quesadillas.

For some Mexican/American fusion, try the carne asada fries, topped with steak, peppers, sour cream and guacamole.

With 4.5 stars out of 303 reviews on Yelp, the mobile eatery has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for a cheap option.

3. Loxicha Authentic Oaxaca Cuisine

Loxicha Authentic Oaxaca Cuisine in Victory Heights is another much-loved, low-priced go-to, with five stars out of 63 Yelp reviews. Many of the food items are typical of other Mexican food trucks — tacos and burritos made with carne asada, chicken and chorizo. What's different here are the Oaxacan dishes like mole, chapulines (grasshoppers) and the tlayuda, which is a fried tortilla topped with beans, tomatoes, avocado, Oaxacan cheese and your choice of meat.

Head over to 11552 15th Ave. NE to try it for yourself.

4. Falafel Salam

Over in West Seattle, check out Falafel Salam, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 117 reviews on Yelp. The Middle Eastern outfit has both a brick-and-mortar restaurant, at 4746 California Ave. SW, and a food truck. Both serve made-from-scratch falafel, shawarma and gyro, delivered in a pita, in a bowl with rice or on a bed of greens. Expect sauces like tzatziki, garlic aioli and tahini. Garlic fries, dolmas and hummus make nice accompaniments.

You can track the food truck's location at the Falafel Salam website, here.

5. Anita's Mexican Food

Finally, there's Anita's Mexican Food, a Bitter Lake favorite with five stars out of 44 reviews. It's all here: a long list of meats (tongue, barbacoa, al pastor pork, shrimp, fish, Yucatan-style pork) that you can have stuffed into tortillas as tacos, quesadillas or burritos, plus tortas, enchiladas and tostadas. A favorite at Anita's, and not often found elsewhere, are the tamales.

Stop by 12245 Aurora Ave. North near 125th Street to hit up the food truck the next time you're in the mood for cheap eats.
