The year's end will also be the end of the road for Tibetan City Gifts, the Haight and Belvedere retail annex of the Upper Haight's mainstay Tibetan handicrafts shop, Tibetan Gift Corner.

Opened over four years ago as an expansion by the same people who run Tibetan Gift Corner, the shop largely duplicated some of the first store's offerings: textiles and clothes, wooden carvings, crystals, jewelry, and home furnishings.

In the meantime, there's still no shortage of Tibetan import shops in the immediate vicinity, including the neighboring Genesis Imports (redux), nearby Bazar (1692 Haight) and Tibetan Gift Corner (at Clayton).

With an eye towards winding down by year's end, offerings in the store are now marked down, and large signs in the window signal the shop's move to liquidate inventory.

The representative we spoke with didn't comment on the reason for the closure. But whether it's extortionate rent or the looming impact of a two-year construction zone, this closure is part of a continuing trend on the street, as we've reported before, with legacy businesses hunkering down to weather the predicted impact of lost sales.
