Firefighters quickly extinguish 1-alarm fire at Market & Noe

A one-alarm fire broke out at 2325 Market St. (between Noe and Castro streets) at approximately 2:25 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

The fire started in a second-floor residential unit, located above D&H Jewelers (2323 Market St.), flower shop Ixia (2331 Market St.) and forthcoming decor shop Stag & Manor (2327 Market St.)

The San Francisco Fire Department was able to contain the fire by 2:45 p.m., preventing damage to the three ground-floor commercial spaces.

SFFD representative Jonathan Baxter reported the cause of the fire as accidental. He said that no injuries were reported and no one was displaced, although one cat was rescued.

Market Street was shut down between Castro and Noe streets, causing traffic and transportation delays in the area. The SF Department of Emergency Management reported that streets were reopened by 3:52 p.m.

Hoodline reached out to the three businesses located beneath the fire to see how they'd fared.

An employee at D&H Jewelers told Hoodline over the phone that they were still assessing the damage.

Seth Morrison of Stag & Manor told Hoodline there was no noticeable damage to the store — just some water leaking from the upstairs unit. Morrison said he considers himself lucky, because he's planning on opening the new store on Friday, just in time for the holiday season.

But in unfortunate timing for the Thanksgiving holiday, flower shop Ixia is currently without power, according to a Facebook post from owner Cheri Mims.

"We will be working from a temporary studio, so we can fulfill all of your orders," Mims wrote.

Mims hopes to have the power back on later today. Until then, customers are asked to contact Ixia through a temporary number, (415) 860-9096, for any Thanksgiving arrangements or other holiday orders.
