Here's a selection of crimes that have occurred in Hayes Valley and the Western Addition since our last roundup in early November. All reports were provided by SFPD, unless otherwise noted.

Man takes purse while riding his bike

A 20-year-old man riding a bicycle around 5:15 p.m. December 4 rode past a 64-year-old woman at Fell and Gough streets and took her purse. The suspect fled on Fell Street toward Van Ness Avenue on his bike with the purse, which contained cash as well as a cellphone.

Trash bin fire in alley

An unknown suspect, age 20 to 30, set fire to a trash bin on the 100 block of Rose Street on November 21, a few minutes prior to midnight. The fire caused damage to the trash bin, and the suspect fled eastbound.

Cellphone robbery leads to injuries

On November 28, a 42-year-old woman was looking at her cellphone at Geary Boulevard and Webster Street when a man approached her and tried to take her cellphone. She struggled with the man for her phone, but the suspect gained control of it and fled on foot along with two other men.

The woman suffered non life-threatening injuries from the encounter but refused transport to a hospital.

Five men surround woman, rob cellphone

Five men, between 16 and 17 years old, surrounded a 24-year-old woman at Eddy and Laguna streets around 6 p.m. November 12 before one of the men stole her phone. All suspects fled on foot.

Late night robbery with sharp metal object

A man approached a 26-year-old man from behind around 3 a.m. November 10 at Gough and Sutter streets and pushed a sharp metal object into the victim's back. While the encounter did not cause injuries, the suspect took the victim's cellphone, wallet and keys, then fled on foot southbound on Gough Street.

Laptop stolen through window

Sometime between 10:15 p.m. on November 5 and 7:20 a.m. the following morning, a laptop was stolen from an apartment on the 200 block of Page Street. The victim, a 49-year-old man, awoke in the morning to discover that his window was open and his laptop was missing.

Northern Station monthly community meeting

Residents interested in learning more about crime and safety in the district are invited to attend Northern Station's community meetings, held at the station (1125 Fillmore St.) at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
