1. Citizen Yoga

Topping the list is Citizen Yoga. Located at 1224 Library St. downtown, it's the highest rated yoga spot in Detroit, boasting five stars out of 23 reviews on Yelp. Citizen Yoga was opened in 2013 by owner Kacee Must. Although the yoga place was initially opened in Royal Michigan, the business now has four locations, including its Detroit location. Per the website, Must’s goal for Citizen Yoga is to “provide every citizen with a space they consider to be their third home — after their family home and workplace”.

Several programs and classes are  offered. There’s the RYT 200 program, which is a 15-week teacher training type of class that allows attendees to learn the principals behind yoga, as well as the other basics, methods, sequence and pace. For attendees just getting into yoga, there’s the blend and candlelight blend classes. Expecting or new mothers can also look for the pre/post natal class that is intended to promote several benefits for moms.

Yelper Sean M. noted, “This was the first time that I have done yoga and have been to a yoga studio. The staff at Citizen was welcoming and encouraged people to do only what their level allowed for. The studio was extremely clean and well maintained.”

2. Bikram Yoga

Next up is Midtown's Bikram Yoga, situated at 55 W. Canfield, Suite 1. With 4.5 stars out of 25 reviews on Yelp, the yoga and personal training spot has proven to be a local favorite.

The  yoga studio focuses on the practice of hot yoga through its 26 & 2 series. The series consists of classes that utilizes 26 yoga postures and two breathing exercises within a heated room. Per the website, the heated room is intended to “promote cellular metabolism, detoxification and suppleness of the muscular system." Classes are open to both beginning and expert levels of yoga.

Yelper Karey Q. said, “Really beautiful facilities and a great staff. It’s very challenging and a very hot class, but you can take breaks if you need to. The instructors encourage you to respect your limits while challenging yourself.”
