New lounge Nero now open in Dupont CirclePhoto: Nero/Yelp

A new lounge and wine bar has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 1323 Connecticut Ave. NW in Dupont Circle, the newcomer is called Nero.

It's in the former Red Apron Burger Bar location, with its tall ceilings, private back room and patio. There's also a long bar, where dozens of wine—mostly Italian—are available on tap by the glass, and a large selection of craft beers and cocktails.

Pizza options include classics like pepperoni, sausage and oregano, as well as gourmet versions like truffled mushroom, Parmesan and roasted garlic cream, or fig, cherry balsamic and prosciutto. There are also "international" combos, like the one with pork belly, mango, Thai basil and spicy tomato curry sauce.

The menu continues with both Italian and Indian dishes. Look for burrata and shrimp arancini, for example, as well as tandoori chicken and samosas. (The full menu can be found here.)

The new lounge has proven popular thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 10 reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Amanda V., who reviewed it on Dec. 2, wrote, "The ambiance is very romantic and laid back. Jonas is such an amazing and friendly bartender! Lovely selection of wines. Definitely try their cheese boards or pizzas."

And Il-Young S. wrote, "Great vibes. Great interior. Friendly staff. Great happy hour. It's a nice mix of cozy and industrial feel. Great for after work happy hour to take the edge off."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Nero is open from 4 p.m.–2 a.m. on Monday-Thursday, 4 p.m.–3 a.m. on Friday, 6 p.m.–3 a.m. on Saturday, and 4–11 p.m. on Sunday.
