1. The Eagle

Topping the list is Southern and traditional American spot The Eagle, which offers comfort food and more. Located at 1342 Vine St., it's the most popular business in the neighborhood, boasting 4.5 stars out of 1,645 reviews on Yelp. 

The restaurant has four locations in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, all specializing in its self-declared "cage free, free roaming, all-natural" fried chicken.

Accompanying the chicken, there's house-made spicy hot honey sauce and sides like the sweet potato crock, topped with toasted mini marshmallows, and the macaroni and cheese, with five cheeses and garlic breadcrumbs. 

2. Bakersfield

Next up is Mexican street food eatery and bar Bakersfield, situated at 1213 Vine St. With 4.5 stars out of 1,093 reviews on Yelp, it's proven to be a local favorite. 

Bakersfield offers a menu of authentic Mexican street food and has over 100 tequilas and American whiskeys. Order the short rib tostadas, made of braised short rib, pickled white onions, cilantro, radish and rojo salsa, served on a crispy corn tortilla.

Add the Paloma cocktail, featuring grapefruit, to quench your thirst. Or select one of the many taco options, like Baja Shrimp tacos, made with crispy shrimp, chipotle lime crema, guacamole, red cabbage, pickled Fresno peppers and chives.

3. Taft's Ale House

New American brewpub Taft's Ale House is another top choice. Yelpers give the business, located at 1429 Race St., 4.5 stars out of 794 reviews. 

Taft's Ale House is one of Taft's Brewing Co.'s two restaurant-breweries in Ohio. Aside from its long list of beers on tap, the tavern serves a pub-style menu featuring several sandwiches, sides, appetizers, platters, salads and also has a kids’ menu.

Look for options like the tri-tip steak, which comes in a choice of an eight-ounce or 12-ounce steak and is served with mashed potatoes, gravy, roasted veggies and cornbread. There are also smaller bites like the loaded tater tots, made with house lager beer cheese, jalapeños, bacon, green onions and sour cream.

4. Krueger's Tavern

Krueger's Tavern, traditional American restaurant and bar that offers burgers and more, is another much-loved neighborhood go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 606 Yelp reviews. Head over to 1211 Vine St. to see for yourself. 

Choose from a selection of beers, burgers, sausages, sides, sandwiches and salads. The spicy burger with two patties, ghost pepper jack cheese, spicy homemade pickles, chipotle habanero slaw is one of the standout choices.

The house-made Lincolnshire sausage is another pick; it’s an herbed British sausage that comes with colcannon (mashed potatoes and wilted kale) in Guinness-braised onions.
