Crime incidents in Miami saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 252 for the week of Jan. 7, up from 243 the week before.

The offenses that increased the most were theft and robbery. Theft rose to 128 incidents last week, from 118 the week before. Robbery went from seven to eight.

There was one reported vandalism last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of burglary went from 23 to 15. Incidents of assault fell from 43 to 41, and shootings went down from two to one.

There were 38 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of one from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 20 arrests were made last week, up from 12 arrests the week before.

As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Liberty City, Downtown and Allapattah had the most reported incidents last week. Downtown and Allapattah were at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays saw the most crime incidents last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Mondays, while incidents on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays went down. Late morning, late afternoon and evening saw the most crime last week.
