Here's a selection of crimes that have occurred in Hayes Valley and the Western Addition since our last roundup in early January. All reports were provided by SFPD, unless otherwise noted.

Stabbing with a key

On January 29 at 12:30 a.m., a 30-year-old man stabbed a 41-year-old woman with a key near Laguna and Ellis streets, in an incident that police say was unprovoked. The suspect then fled in a vehicle. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Camera robbery near Alamo Square

Two men approached and robbed a 46-year-old woman at Fulton and Pierce streets on January 23 around 8:30 p.m. They took the woman's digital camera, camera lens and flash drives and fled in a vehicle. Police chased the vehicle, but lost it after it took off eastbound on the Bay Bridge at a high rate of speed.

Home burglary leads to stabbing

On January 19, a home was burglarized on the 200 block of Lily Street while the occupants, a 56-year-old man and woman, were inside. The residents awoke around 6 a.m. to discover the burglar, a man of unknown age. After the man confronted the suspect, he stabbed him with a sharp object before fleeing.

The male victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The woman was not injured during the encounter.

Trio of teen boys punch woman, steal her phone

On January 15 at 5:45 p.m., a 60-year-old woman was approached at Fillmore Street and Geary Boulevard by three boys, aged 13-15. One of the boys attempted to snatch her phone, and when the victim fought to retrieve it, the two other suspects punched her. One of the suspects gained control of the woman's phone, and the trio fled northbound on Fillmore Street.

The woman suffered cuts and scrapes to her face, but declined transportation to a hospital.

Burning Christmas tree damages car

On January 15, at 3:27 a.m. the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a call of a Christmas tree set ablaze on the 1100 block of Hayes Street, next to Alamo Square Park. The fire was extinguished, but it damaged a car.


Northern Station monthly community meeting

Residents interested in learning more about crime and safety in the district are invited to attend Northern Station's community meetings, held at the station (1125 Fillmore St.) at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.

Hayes Valley public safety meeting

The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association invites residents to its monthly public safety meeting on Monday, February 4. Sandra Zuniga from the SF Fix-It Team will be on hand to discuss efforts to fix sidewalk cracks, dangerous tree limbs and other safety concerns in the neighborhood. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the Korean American Center (745 Buchanan St.)
