New distillery Kingfly Spirits now open in Strip DistrictPhoto: Kingfly Spirits/Yelp

A new distillery has opened for business in the neighborhood. The newcomer to the Strip District, called Kingfly Spirits, is located at 2613 Smallman St.

Kingfly Spirits retains a lot of the character of the former 19th-century horse stable that used to occupy the space. In the middle of the large venue sits a 58-gallon copper still, so patrons can see how the spirits they just ordered were produced.

Yelpers recommend the limoncello and white rum. The limited menu includes snacks like smoked eggplant dip and citrus olives.

With a 4.5-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, the new distillery has made a promising start.

Spencer Z., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Feb. 10, wrote, "The atmosphere is amazing and the design keeps the history of the building intact. ... I don't know if I have enough words to describe just how much it is a joy to drink their spirits."

And Tony B. wrote, "Beautiful space. Great spirits. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I plan on spending a lot of time here."

Kingfly Spirits is open 5–11 p.m. Wednesday–Friday, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Saturday and noon–4 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Monday and Tuesday.
