A new Mexican spot has opened for business in the neighborhood. Called Zocalito Latin Bistro, the fresh arrival is located at 999 18th St., Suite 107, downtown.

The restaurant serves cuisine inspired by a fusion of authentic Oaxacan and American flavors. Guests may dig into a variety of tapas, from crispy pork loin tacos to grilled calamari, stuffed with herbs, rice, vegetables and chorizo.

For a heartier meal, the menu offers items like its seafood stew with tomato chile broth with cod, calamari, shrimp, mussels and avocado, and the skirt steak with negro mole layered with Oaxacan mozzarella, negro chilhuacle mole and bean and cheese tacos. (View the full menu here.)

The new addition has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Robert F., who reviewed the new spot on Jan. 3, wrote, "The chef was trained in the French tradition and combines these techniques with Oaxacan ingredients and traditional Oaxacan recipes along with other regional Mexican dishes. The results are very special. Zocalito is a wonderful addition to the Denver dining scene."

And Cyn C. added, "The server was awesome. A bit of an edge (which I appreciate), attentive without being overly solicitous and he was spot on with his recommendations."

Head on over to check it out: Zocalito Latin Bistro is open from 11 a.m.–11 p.m. on Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.–midnight on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
