The number of crime reports in Washington saw an overall decrease last month, for the third month in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents fell by 9.4 percent, from 2,510 in January to 2,274 in February.

Theft and robbery led the most recent decrease in crime reports. Theft fell from 1,985 reported incidents in January to 1,805 in February. Robbery incidents went from 200 to 159 for the month, or about a 20 percent decrease.

There were 141 assault reports last month, and 99 burglary incidents. Assault incidents dropped from 156 offenses the previous month, while burglary reports decreased by 14 incidents.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, shooting reports went from 23 to 29.

Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, the largest decline last month occurred in Eckington, Capitol Hill and Downtown.

Fridays, Thursdays and Tuesdays experienced the most crime incidents last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while incidents on Fridays and Mondays went up. Comparing times of day, after midnight, late night and late afternoon saw the most crime last month on average each day.
