Want the dirt on San Jose's buzziest local spots?

We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to discover which eateries have been getting a significant uptick in attention this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at San Jose businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increase their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Read on to see which spots are getting plenty of attention this spring.

Slapfish

Open since February, this spot to score seafood, fish and chips and sandwiches is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Seafood" on Yelp.

Citywide, seafood spots saw a median 3.1 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Slapfish saw a dramatic 183.3 percent increase, with a slight downward trend from a four-star rating a month ago to 3.5 stars today.

It's not the only trending outlier in the seafood category: The Kickin' Crab has seen a 11 percent increase in reviews.

Located at 5297 Prospect Road, Suite 40 in West San Jose, Slapfish offers starters like fish street tacos, New England clam chowder and lobster taquitos alongside healthy options like the Hawaiian bowl with garlic shrimp, pineapple and seasoned rice. (Here's the menu.)

Fairgrounds's Ono Hawaiian BBQ is also making waves. Open since January at 1510 Monterey Road, Suite 40, the Hawaiian spot, which offers barbecue and seafood, has seen a 44.4 percent bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 3.5 percent for all businesses tagged "Barbeque" on Yelp.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ offers meat dishes including barbecue chicken, island white fish, Kalua pork and island fire chicken. Sides and appetizers include wontons, crispy shrimp and a variety of musubi rolls. (Check out the full menu here.)

Over the past month, it's seen its Yelp rating tick down from four stars to 3.5 stars.

Super Duper Burgers

West San Jose's Super Duper Burgers is the city's buzziest traditional American spot by the numbers.

The traditional American spot, which offers burgers and more and opened at 5399 Prospect Road in late December 2018, increased its new review count by 24.7 percent over the past month, an outlier when compared to the median new review count of 2 percent for the Yelp category "American (Traditional)."

Super Duper Burgers offers two-patty and mini burgers alongside a slew of toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, grilled onions and house-made pickles. Vegetarian burgers are also up for grabs.

Or, if you've got a sweet tooth, the burger joint serves up organic soft serve ice cream and shakes. (Take a look at the full menu.)
