A new izakaya, offering ramen and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The new arrival, called Kurume Ramen & Izakaya, is located at 1435 S. Loop 288, Suite 117.

Try the Kurume Tonkotsu Ramen (thin noodles in a pork-based broth, chashu, a soft-boiled egg and veggies) or the Shio Ramen (wavy noodles in a chicken broth, soft-boiled egg, menma, bean sprouts, nori, naruto and green onion). Pair it with a couple of appetizers and a beer such as Asahi, Sapporo or Kirin, or the house sake. (Click here to view the full menu.)

With a 4.5-star rating out of 50 reviews on Yelp so far, the newcomer has already made a good impression.

David O., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on March 7, wrote, "The broth that is the heart of good ramen was complex and layered with flavor, and the addition of black garlic created an amazing earthy undertone that was delectable."

And Tien H. wrote, "My friend and I both got the Ika Geso Karaage (fried squid tentacles) and the Tonkatsu Ramen with wavy noodles. The fried squid was my favorite thing ever. It came with lemon and a dipping sauce. It has a subtle and delicate flavor. The ramen is probably the best ramen I've had in Denton."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Kurume Ramen & Izakaya is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and 3–10 p.m. on Sunday.
