Oakland weekend: Tori Kelly, plant sale, aviation history, more

From concerts to an aviation celebration to a plant sale and speaker series that will get you excited for spring (yes, despite the rain), there's plenty to do in Oakland this weekend.

Two-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Tori Kelly will bring her talents to the Fox Theater tonight. Though Kelly was once eliminated  from competition on American Idol, she continued to pursue her career, eventually winning two Grammys in 2018: one for Best Gospel Album for "Hiding Place," and one for Best Gospel Performance/Song for the single "Never Alone."

Muse at Oracle Arena

English rock band Muse is set to perform at Oracle Area on Saturday night as part of their "Simulation Theory" tour. Together since 1994, the band has been recording and touring steadily for over 20 years, bringing their unique brand of alternative rock to fans around the world.

Plant Exchange Sale and Speaker Series

The Plant Exchange is holding a fundraising sale and speaker series on Saturday. Lori Caldwell, aka "the Compost Gal", will be the first speaker in a series; her talk is called "Gardening 101" and will discuss the basics of gardening. The plant sale will include a variety of plants and other gardening items to kick off gardening season. 

When: Saturday, March 9, Plant sale: 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Speaker series: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Women in Aviation Celebration

Amelia Earhart may be the most recognized woman in aviation, but she's not alone. Learn about this important part of aviation history at Sunday's Women in Aviation Celebration, which will include film screenings, a talk and a book signing. The main film feature will be "WASP: A Wartime Experiment in Womanpower," and author Erin Miller will speak about her book "Final Flight, Final Flight: My Grandmother, the Wasp, and Arlington National Cemetery." This is a family-friendly event that includes kids activities.
