Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable Southeast Asian restaurants around San Antonio, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to venture next time you're on the hunt.
1. Pho Win
Topping the list is Pho Win. Located at 12830 Silicon Drive, Suite 102, the Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai spot is the highest rated low-priced Southeast Asian restaurant in San Antonio, boasting 4.5 stars out of 120 reviews on Yelp.
On the menu, look for a wide selection of options, including vermicelli bowls, steam rice plates, beef rice noodle soup, egg noodle soup, stir fried egg noodles, fried rice and Chinese and Thai food. Try the marinated beef stir-fried with lemongrass vermicelli bowl, which also comes with lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumbers, carrots, peanuts, mint and fish sauce, or opt the seafood stir fried noodles with shrimp, squid, imitation crab meat and a fish ball.
2. Taste Of Asia
Next up is Taste of Asia, situated at 300 W. Bitters Road, Suite 115. With four stars out of 356 reviews on Yelp, the Vietnamese and Chinese spot has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for an affordable option.
Taste of Asia offers a menu that includes soups, chow mein, rice, rice dishes and Chinese gourmet seafood special plates. Diners can choose the chicken subgum chow mein, the house fried rice (shrimp, pork and chicken) or the Happy Family (shrimp, pork, beef and chicken with vegetables in a special sauce). 3. Pho Ha Long
Thunderbird Hills's Pho Ha Long, located at 6424 N.W. Loop 410, Suite 104, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the budget-friendly Vietnamese spot four stars out of 355 reviews.
Pho comes in a beef and pork broth with shrimp, chicken, pork and steak added at Pho Ha Long. Also, there are vermicelli bowls, rice plates, special dishes such as roasted chicken and barbecue ribs and Vietnamese alternative fare like beef stew, fried quail and chicken, pork, and shrimp combination fried rice.
4. Laguna Cafe
Laguna Cafe, a New American, Filipino and Asian fusion spot, is another much-loved, low-priced go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 101 Yelp reviews. Head over to 8403 State Highway 151, Suite 110, to see for yourself.
Patrons can order the chicken or pork adobo plate (cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, bay leaf and black pepper and served with pancit — Filipino noodles), the pancit canton (egg noodles stir fried with veggies, chicken, pork and baby shrimp) or a burger or panini sandwich.
5. Berni Vietnamese Restaurant
Last but not least, check out Berni Vietnamese Restaurant, which has earned four stars out of 309 reviews on Yelp. Dig in at the Vietnamese spot by heading over to 8742 Wurzbach Road.
It serves nearly a dozen appetizers, banh mi sandwiches, pho (with beef or chicken), vermicelli bowls and rice options. The drink menu includes a vast assortment of Vietnamese coffees, teas, juices, milks, boba cream teas and over 20 fruit smoothie choices.
