Oakland weekend: Easter festivities, '90s R&B throwback show, spring wine release party, more

Easter is upon us, and whether you want to take the kids for an egg hunt and bunny photos or treat yourself to a luxurious brunch, we've got you covered. Other options include the chance to sip new spring wine releases, or get down at a smooth '90s R&B throwback night. Here's where to let loose in Oakland this weekend. 

Dashe Cellars Spring Release Party

Spring has sprung, and new-release wines are hitting the shelves. You can taste some of the latest additions at Dashe Cellars, with a final round of fun before the urban winery departs Oakland for a new location in Alameda. Expect both new-release and sneak-preview wines, along with a brand-new outdoor wine garden for sipping. And if you want to pick up a case, they'll be going for 20% off. 

When: Thursday - Sunday, April 18 - April 21, 12 - 6 p.m.

The Jumpin' Bunny Festival

Visit the historic Dunsmuir-Hellman Estate for this family-friendly celebration of Easter, with an egg hunt, games, crafts, a petting zoo and an appearance by the big guy himself: the Easter Bunny. Kids can also get their faces painted, play in a bounce house and enjoy entertainment from clowns and tap-dancing bunnies. 

When: Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

R&B Rewind Fest

Throw back to an earlier era of R&B with this revue of four popular groups from the '90s and early '00s: Jagged Edge, 112, Silk and Next. With a wide array of hits under their belt, ranging from "Let's Get Married" to "Freak Me" to "Too Close" to the Grammy-nominated "Peaches & Cream," they're sure to inspire some nostalgia. Savor all the smooth vocals and dance moves at the Paramount Theater on Saturday night.

Eve's Waterfront Easter Brunch Buffet

If you're looking for a nice place to brunch on Easter Sunday, we've got two options with killer views. The first is Eve's Waterfront near Jack London Square, which, as its name promises, overlooks the water. It's dishing up a premium buffet with options like crab, slow-roasted prime rib, leg of lamb, fried chicken, mac and cheese and more. Add on a bottle of champagne and juice for mimosas for an extra $25.

Easter Brunch Buffet at The Terrace Room

If you're already dressed to the nines for Easter Sunday, consider brunching at the Terrace Room, with postcard views of Lake Merritt. The Easter buffet includes homemade pastries; breakfast favorites like eggs Benedict, French toast, and frittatas; and a dessert bar with strawberry shortcake, brownies, cookies, cupcakes and pie. Soul-food fans can go to town on everything from fried chicken to red beans and rice to blackened catfish.
