Cats in Minneapolis looking for their furr-ever homesPhotos: Petfinder

Interested in adopting a pet — or just gazing at some cool kitties near you? There are dozens of endearing cats up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Minneapolis.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of cats currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Ziva, domestic longhair and Maine coon mix

Ziva is a sweet female domestic longhair and Maine coon mix staying at Puppy Rescue of Minnesota.

Ziva will get along great with your other cats and dogs. She is already house-trained. She's been vaccinated and spayed.

Notes from Ziva's caretakers:

Ziva is the sweetest little kitten. She loves to play but she quickly curls up for cuddles. She prefers sleeping on her humans, so even if she is moved it doesn't take her long to sneak back into your lap. Ziva and her siblings did not meet any humans until they were about eight weeks old, but since then they have learned to trust and have become very affectionate. They are great eaters and love getting extra treats. So far they have been curious to meet dogs, as long as the dog is not too curious to meet them back. They all love to explore, cuddle, and sit in the window sill. MARS will fully disclose that Ziva has had behavioral issues at the second house she was adopted to, none at the first. She did have litter box issues and will be put on meds to see if this will resolve the issue. Our Feline Department will also loan a tall crate for use as she adjusts to the meds for when she is not monitored and or entertained.

Maxy, domestic shorthair

Maxy is a male domestic shorthair cat currently residing at Suzie's Cat Refuge.

Maxy loves other cats. Maxy will do best in a home without small children. He is already house-trained. Maxy is neutered and vaccinated.

Notes from Maxy's caretakers:

Maxy is a shy boy around strangers, but extremely cuddly and sweet, once he gets to know you. He's energetic and playful, needs a stimulating environment, and would do best in a home with at least one other young, friendly, and playful cat. He should live with cats that don't free-feed, as Maxy has some food sensitivities, and currently eats only wet food. Maxy was approximately 1-2 years old when we brought him into our rescue in January, 2019.

Kirby, domestic shorthair

Kirby is a charming male domestic shorthair cat being kept at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Kirby will do best in a home without small children. He's mastered his house-training etiquette. He is already neutered and vaccinated.

From Kirby's current caretaker:

Kirby is an 11 year old, loving cat who is looking for his forever home. If you're looking for a very low maintenance pal, Kirby may be the cat for you. He is very quiet and likes to just hang out in the same room as you. He likes to show affection by sitting next to you on the couch and rubbing his head on you. Kirby loves to sit on the windowsill and look out the window, it is is favorite thing to do! He has a toy that he likes to play with and sometimes he chases the laser. Binging a new Netflix series? Kirby also likes to hop up on the couch and watch tv, just like the rest of us. Kirby is home most of the day by himself, and he hangs out with his humans in the evenings. He is fed in the morning and at night, but isn't currently being free fed, because he is a little overweight. He's learning healthy habits such as play time every night to help him get some exercise in. Currently, Kirby is the only cat in his fosters apartment. His ideal home is one where there is not a lot of commotion. Since he is such a chill cat, he is looking for someone who can just hang out with him and help him with his weight loss. He doesn't have experience with kids, dogs, or other cats, and honestly — he's doing just fine without them.

Sophie, domestic shorthair

Sophie is a lovable female domestic shorthair cat staying at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

No other pets please: Sophie is looking for forever home without other dogs or cats. She's spayed and vaccinated. She is already house-trained. Sophie is a special needs pet, so please inquire about her specific care requirements.

Here's what Sophie's friends at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota think of her:

Sophie is a busy and enjoyable young lady looking for her forever home! Sophie was born in 2015. She would love a forever home all to herself (aka it's required —- not a pet girl but she loves humans!). Sophie loves toys and chases them all through the house. Sophie has sneezing events periodically due to irritation to her nasal membranes. Otherwise, she is a happy and friendly girl who will be a delightful addition to some lucky household. You can talk more with her foster about the care she has had and what to watch for if there's a flare up.

Jupiter, domestic shorthair

Jupiter is a female domestic shorthair cat being cared for at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Jupiter gets along well with other cats and dogs. Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota, however, thinks she will do best in a home without small children. She's spayed and vaccinated. She has mastered her house-training etiquette.

Notes from Jupiter's caretakers:

Jupiter is a sweet 5-year-old kitty looking for her forever home! Jupiter is the sweetest snufflepuff ever! She is a shy kitty who doesn't like sudden noises, but loves talk to and love on her people. When her foster mom comes home from work she excitedly pops out from under the bed to say hello and get snuggles. Jupiter is not a lap-cat, but she enjoys laying across her human's stomach for nap time. One thing's for sure: she is always in the mood for attention. Jupiter is a little bit clumsy with her claws and gets them stuck on blankets and clothes sometimes as she's walking or running, but consistent nail clipping should help with that. She hangs out in dark enclosed spaces like under the bed when there is commotion in the apartment. Jupiter is nervous when transitioning to new places and will need a very patient adopter to slowly ease her into her new home. Jupiter's favorite hobbies include cuddling with her humans, lounging on soft surfaces, watching the birds out the window, intensely watching the laser pointer for a few minutes before clumsily chasing it like a wild child! Jupiter has lived well among cats and dogs before, but is also very content as the only kitty. Because Jupiter is easily spooked and does not like being picked up she would do best in a quiet home without small children.
