New tea room Cha-An Bonbon now open in The East VillagePhoto: Cha-An Bonbon/Yelp

A new tea room, offering ice cream, frozen yogurt, desserts and more, has made its debut in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to the East Village, called Cha-An Bonbon, is located at 238A E. 9th St.

A tiny takeaway spot, Cha-An Bonbon offers to-go versions of drinks and snacks available at the original Cha-An Teahouse, which is located just up the street. At Cha-An Bonbon, you will find a variety of matcha lattes and Japanese treats, like mochi and dango mochi, which are sweet, rice-flour dumplings, served three-to-five at a time on skewers. This business takes credit cards only.

With a 4.5-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp so far, the new tea room seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Howie Z., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 4, wrote, "You must try their dango!"

And Gloria T. wrote, "Pricing is decent for the city. If you have a craving for Japanese sweets and prefer to get something quick, this place should be on your list."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Cha-An Bonbon is open from noon–8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and noon–9 p.m. on Friday-Sunday. (It's closed on Wednesday.)
