With the first weekend of May approaching, it's time to explore the outdoors. 

Whether you're looking for some new art to add onto your wall or need new plants to spruce up that balcony, here are our top picks for getting out and about over the next few days in San Francisco.

Castro Art Walk

Castro merchants will keep the doors open a little later tonight for the neighborhood's monthly Castro Art Walk, featuring a variety of special events and artwork from local makers. Stop by participating businesses along the self-guided tour, such as ApothecariumDog Eared BooksNorden LivingFlore and more. Live music will be performed at Jane Warner Plaza from 6–7 p.m., as well.

Botanical Garden Spring Plant Sale

On Saturday and Sunday, the San Francisco Botanical Garden will host its annual Spring Plant Sale — a tradition that's been going strong for more than 50 years. Whether you're a green thumb or a novice, the volunteer-staffed nursery invites all bourgeoning horticulturists to check out its extensive selection of flora and rare and unusual gems. 

When: Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: San Francisco Botanical Garden

Lower Haight Art Walk - Spring Edition

Next, the Lower Haight Art Walk returns this Saturday, which kicks off at Haight and Fillmore streets. Anticipate live music, mobile art galleries, retail and food specials, live painting demonstrations and an array of local artists showcasing their wares. The event is organized by Lower Haight Merchants and Neighbors Association. Check out the full lineup of participants here

Urban Air Market

Finally, the Urban Air Market returns to Patricia's Green on Sunday for the 2019 pop-up market season in Hayes Valley. The event will feature more than 150 curated vendors, plus live music, DIY workshops and interactive art projects. 

You can expect to learn how to make a charm necklace, or get a skin consultation and a free mini-facial and more. 

When: Sunday, May 5, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
