Durham-based medical device and life science company KNOW Bio has secured $30 million in funding, according to company database Crunchbase, topping the city’s recent funding headlines. The cash infusion was announced May 15 and financed by Reedy Creek Investments.

According to its Crunchbase profile, "KNOW Bio, LLC, develops and produces nitric oxide-based therapies. The company was founded in 2015 and is based in Durham, North Carolina. The company operates as a subsidiary of Novan, Inc."

The four-year-old startup also raised a $13 million round in 2018.

The round brings total funding raised by Durham companies in science and engineering over the past month to $77 million, an increase of $74 million from the month before. The local science and engineering industry has produced 23 funding rounds over the past year, yielding a total of $191 million in venture funding.

In other local funding news, manufacturing and electronics company Sense Photonics announced a $26 million Series A funding round on June 11, led by Acadia Woods Partners.

According to Crunchbase, "Sense Photonics produces advanced LiDAR and 3D sensor solutions for the autonomous vehicle, UAV and industrial automation markets. It is a start-up company that is based in North Carolina."

Founded in 2016, the company has raised two previous rounds, including a $14 million round in 2018.
